HC-One’s Ebor Court Care Home, in Nether Poppleton, York, is delighted to reveal its flourishing, expansive green space that has become a true haven for residents and a hub of community activity.
Ebor Court uses its abundance of picturesque green space to maximum effect and has attracted many new residents to the home in the process. Ebor Court’s green initiatives include butterfly and bird boxes handmade by residents to help maintain and increase the numbers of some rare or threatened species.
This project has been part of a wider effort to nurture the environment while also creating a vibrant and stimulating atmosphere for the home’s residents. One delightful moment even occurred when a resident, busy watering the pansies, accidentally splashed HC-One’s Ebor Court Lifestyle Manager, Denise Cooper, in the process – an amusing reminder of the joyful and carefree spirit that permeates the home’s gardens.
Ebor Court hopes to grow more herbs, fruit and vegetables. Many of Ebor Court’s residents enjoy gardening and their green fingers have helped create beautiful flowerbeds.
Ebor Court have launched their gardening club again, with the aim to welcome more relatives and friends to enjoy the green spaces this summer. As the weather gets warmer, Ebor Court’s garden area could act as a perfect venue for summer parties, offering a beautiful outdoor space for guests to relax, socialise, and enjoy the sunshine.
Residents with mobility issues also enjoy the pretty garden areas from the perches of the home’s suite of outdoor furniture. Denise Cooper, Ebor Court’s Lifestyle Manager, is building on her aim of the home’s green becoming a “community hub”.
Denise Cooper, HC-One’s Ebor Court Lifestyle Manager, said:
“We are very fortunate to have so many green areas, and our aim is for all our residents to enjoy these spaces. We hope that Ebor Court can play a role in preserving our natural environment for future generations.
“It’s wonderful to see our residents engaging with the garden and creating items to proudly display. Together, we can utilise our garden area in an eco-friendly way that enhances both our residents' wellbeing and the surrounding environment.”
