During these difficult times, with it hard to see family, it is important to look back on the memories we hold dear of family.
During lockdown, The Red House care home have made full use of the ‘Yesterday’ magazines to reminisce each day about different things everyone has done in life, memories of children, holidays, pets and so much more.
The Residents have found it interesting and fun looking back and telling the stories of things they’ve done. This time is also used to look forwards, about things people would like to happen and do once the opportunity comes, maybe a trip they never went on, a hobby they always wanted to try or a family member they want to see.
It has become a favourite session each day and provided many giggles, learning all the mischief the Residents got into growing up!
Pam (pictured) commented, “It’s lovely reminding yourself of those funny memories”
Keith Ware, Home Manager, remarked, “We can all look back on life and remember things we did. The ‘Yesterday’s news’ we download for everyone and use individually and in groups. It’s a great thing to use and has fostered ideas for building reminiscence areas. Already underway collecting old food tins for one area and creating own instruments for our music area. Residents love reading through the Yesterday’”.
