Yarn bombers make a statement at Coventry care homeHC-One’s Brandon House care home in Coventry was delighted to receive a vibrant makeover as knitters across the community yarn bombed the home’s garden.

The yarn bombing, which is a type of street art displaying colourful creations of knitted or crocheted yarn or fibre, took place in preparation of Care Home Open Day on Friday 28th June.

Arranged by Brandon House Home Manager, Sheryl Davis, the project was a community effort as knit and natter groups across Coventry each produced a piece for the yarn bombing, along with children from local schools. Residents at Brandon House were also keen to get involved, with some even learning how to knit for the first time.

Creations from the community, in addition to pieces made by Residents, staff and friends of Brandon House, were pieced together to decorate the garden.

The display proudly showcases knitting masterpieces from across the community, with a variety of animals, patchwork blankets and hanging decorations featured in the garden.

Sheryl Davis said: “At HC-One, we are passionate about getting involved with the local community as much as we can, so it was great to see so many knitting groups and schools contributing to the yarn bombing project.

“Our Residents were thrilled to see the garden come together with the marvellous donations we received and can’t wait to show it off to family and friends at Care Home Open Day.”

Located on Old Church Road, Brandon House offers short and long term care packages for older members of the community needing nursing dementia care. The home’s yarn bombing display will be on show at Brandon House’s Care Home Open Day event on Friday 28th June from 11am until 3pm.
