Yarm care home Residents send pocket hug to loved onesResidents at HC-One’s Highfield care home in Yarm have created a ‘pocket hug’ to send to their Relatives alongside a letter from the Home Manager.

Being in touch with Relatives and friends has always been important for Residents, however during the coronavirus lockdown, it has become more and more difficult for Relatives to keep in touch as the lockdown measures don’t allow home visits.

To help fill this void, staff at Highfield care home came up with the idea to send Relatives ‘pocket hugs’ along with a lovely poem by Highfield Home Manage Jackie Lothian:

The world seems so silent and there is so much time to reflect
We think of those we love, who now we must protect

Those times we were too busy, to play, to read, to cook,
And now we have the time, to read that special book

We clapped every Thursday, for our fearless frontline teams
So brave and so determined, the army of our dreams

We wonder what will be recalled, from these our lockdown days
When staying home and staying safe, made us all change our ways

We will recall how we missed our loved ones so near and so far,
Were all in this together, we are never really far

And when life goes back to how it was, what stays in our heart
Is the way we stood together and willingly played our part

Residents were over the moon that they were able to let their loved ones know that they love them and that they are thinking about them.

One Highfield Resident said: “I love my daughter so much, I was happy to be able to send her a little gift.”

Highfield Home Manager Jackie Lothian said: “Being in touch with Relatives has been so important, it was lovely to show them how much we appreciated them.”
