Residents and team members of HC-One’s Highfield Care Home in Yarm, Cleveland hosted their own Harvest Festival on Friday, in support of Silver Sunday to help combat loneliness within the community and increase happiness and wellbeing.
St Mary Magdalene’s Church held a Harvest Festival service for the Residents and visitors, with songs and hymns, before receiving the harvest donation with food donated by Residents, family members and the team at Highfield.
The food hamper will be donated by the church to North East Health Link, a charitable organisation that was founded in the early 1990’s and who provide regular meals, clothing, blankets, advice and someone to talk to for homeless people throughout the North East of England.
Everyone then enjoyed a coffee morning, complete with homemade cake and a raffle. £56 was raised towards the Resident’s comfort fund and a member of St Mary’s Magdalene’s Church was lucky enough to walk away with the prize, a beautiful hamper of fresh fruit.
Residents later tucked into a buffet lunch, before enjoying an afternoon of entertainment by singer Emily Jane, with a glass of wine and some nibbles.
Tom Anderson, Husband of Ada who was a late Resident at Highfield, commented:
“I always come along for the events and pop in from time to time, the team at Highfield are fantastic and took such great care of my wife, it’s my way of showing my support for the amazing work that they do.
When Ada came to Highfield she had lost a lot of weight and wasn’t eating, but after she moved here, she was really enjoying her food again, so much so she started eating others leftovers as well!”
Highfield’s Home Manager, Carolyn O’Lone commented:
“Everyone had a brilliant day, the Residents all really enjoyed the church service and the singer in the afternoon had a beautiful voice.”
