Wotton-under-Edge care home celebrate Chinese New YearPennwood Lodge care home, in Kingswood, Wotton-under-Edge, held an afternoon of Chinese food tasting in celebration of the Chinese New Year. 

Prior to the big celebration, Residents had made a colourful Chinese dragon in a craft session which was held by the home’s wellbeing team. This was then displayed alongside other Chinese New Year decorations.

Carl, the home’s Chef, demonstrated how to make spring rolls in front of the Residents, much to their amusement. 

After the group had a selection of different Chinese takeaway foods and snacks to try, including beef in black bean sauce, chicken curry with noodles, sweet and sour chicken and, by request from one of the Residents Shelia, her favourite sweet and sour pork. To accompany these was a selection og spring rolls, wontons, prawn toast and prawn crackers.

One of the Residents commented, “It was nice to try something different and to watch the chef cook the spring rolls.”

Twelve Residents, Colleagues and visitors at the 45-bed residential, nursing and dementia care home attended the event in the communal area and other Residents requested food in their rooms. 

Julie, Wellbeing Coordinator, said, “It was lovely to see people engaging in the afternoon with each other, and enjoying the Chinese food.”
