Wishes come true for Dukinfield care home ResidentStaff at The Beeches care home in Dukinfield have helped a dream come true for Resident Roy as he enjoyed a day out with the local fishing group in Denton.

Roy, who was a keen fisherman before he came to live at The Beeches, said his one wish was to be able to go fishing again.

Minibus driver Chris recognised Roy on a recent trip to The Beeches, where they began discussing their memories of fishing at the local pond.

After Chris realised Roy’s wishes to go fishing once again, he arranged for Roy to go out fishing with all their mutual friends at the Denton fishing group as part of his 85th birthday celebrations.

Upon arriving at the pond, Roy was thrilled to see the fellow fishing fanatics had set him up with a light pole and various other fishing gear to help him fish.

Roy had a fantastic morning, catching four fish throughout his time at the pond with the help of Chris. All of his old friends from the fishing group sang him Happy Birthday, while enjoying a catch-up about all their old memories at the pond.

Roy later returned to the home to continue the celebrations, where he was presented a marvellous birthday cake by the care home staff and his fellow Residents.

Roy said: “It was a brilliant day. I have really enjoyed myself, especially as I didn’t think I would catch anything.”

Sade, Wellbeing Coordinator at The Beeches, added: “Roy’s fishing trip was fantastic. What Chris and the other fishermen did for Roy was really lovely, nothing was too much trouble for them and they really made his birthday extra special. He enjoyed himself so much and was really chuffed that he caught four fish.”
