Home Manager at Ferndale Mews care home in Cheshire, Peter McCarten, created a random acts of kindness board for Colleagues at the home to randomly select a kindness challenge which they must perform within one week to either the Residents or each other.
Colleagues are asked to pick an envelope, there are 35 envelopes with a random act of kindness inside. Then one needs to memorise this act and then have to perform the task within the week and report back to the Manager.
This has been a fun challenge for everyone to participate in and both Colleagues and Residents have benefitted from the display in the home.
Residents have liked being able to experience a random act of kindness, one said, “A lovely idea to help bring more positivity to the home.”
Edith Barton, Resident, commented, “This is a fantastic idea to show kindness to people.”
Peter remarked, “I think this is a great idea to help put a sparkle into peoples’ lives whether it is one of our lovely staff, or Residents experiencing it.”
