Residents at Meridian Healthcare’s White Rose House joined forces with children at Barnaby’s Day Nursery recently for a fun filled day of Easter activities.
Playful tots entertained residents as part of an intergenerational event at the Holmfirth based nursing home when they hunted for Easter eggs that had been dotted around the building.
Children and residents took part in arts and crafts during the afternoon before sitting down for a tasty hot cross bun and refreshments.
Christine Quinn said: “Intergenerational experiences can significantly improve the health and wellbeing of our residents as they are given an opportunity to teach children and make a positive impact on their behaviour and skills.
“It is important that the younger and older generations learn to appreciate their differences and similarities and it was wonderful to be able to witness our residents passing on invaluable life lessons to the children that attended.”
Intergenerational projects have been found to reduce isolation, loneliness and depression amongst the older generation, in addition to giving them a sense of wellbeing.
The Easter event was organised as part of a varied activities programme designed to keep residents physically and mentally active.
