A resident at HC-One's Adelaide House care home, in Walton-On-Thames, Surrey, celebrated her 100th birthday with a surprise visit from Member of Parliament (MP) for Esher and Walton, Monica Harding.
Margo Betts, who lives at HC-One’s Adelaide House care home, reached the milestone birthday on October 24, 2024. Margo was showered with birthday cards, including her royal birthday card from Kings Charles and Queen Camilla.
But she was especially pleased to be visited by local MP for Esher and Walton, Monica Harding, who had been alerted about the special celebration and dropped in to offer Ms Betts her best birthday wishes. Margo was born in 1924 in Workington, a small town on the west coast of Cumbria.
She later moved to Guilford where she enjoyed a career in banking and the civil service, sharing her life with husband Edgar who has since passed away. She still enjoys a range of activities, including gardening and flower arranging, completing jigsaws, reading and watching TV.
She also loves chatting to staff and fellow residents at HC-One's Adelaide House care home. When asked what her secret is to a long life, she says simply ‘enjoy yourself’.
Adelaide House Wellbeing Coordinator Bronwyn Dobie, who helped organise Margo’s birthday celebrations, said:
“We all had a wonderful time enjoying Margo's birthday celebration. She had a fun filled day with plenty of visitors, gifts, cards and several yummy cakes.
“Margo even received a special visit from Surrey's MP, Monica Harding! Our library (where we celebrated the birthday) could have been mistaken for a florist or candy shop today, as our special birthday girl has received so many wonderful gifts from friends and family, near and far.
“What an incredible milestone to reach, Adelaide House staff and fellow residents all really enjoyed celebrating her special day with her! Cheers to Margo, 100 and fabulous!”
