VE Day remembered at Daneside CourtResidents at HC-One’s Daneside Court in Northwich came together to recall their own memories of Victory in Europe (VE) Day, which marked the formal acceptance by the Allies of World War II of Germany’s unconditional surrender.

The 8th May is a date that remains in the minds of many who lived through the war and residents were keen to share their own experiences of what was the world’s most devastating war to date.

Staff held a VE Day Tea Party with plenty of treats and alcoholic refreshments. A special Eggless cake was served as Residents had previously spent time researching recipes from the 1940’s and had settled on baking that one.

Many Residents reminisced about their parents cooking and using ration books and visiting all the different types of shops for supplies.

Everyone dressed in 1940’s outfits and enjoyed some music from the 1940’s too!

Joanne Farrell, Home Manager at HC-One’s Daneside Court commented:

“It is always lovely to see our Residents enjoying each other’s company and having fun. We all had a great day and celebrating days like this ensures we can provide the kindest possible care to our Residents!”
