Uxbridge care home celebrates International Nurses DayColleagues at The Harefield celebrated the wonderful nurses in their home recently, one of which has opened up about her nursing career.

Elayne, who works in the home, qualified as a nurse in 1995 after completing a diploma programme in Sheffield.

After beginning her education with the plan to work as a midwife, she decided she would prefer to go into elderly care. She began with specialising in respiratory nursing during her early career, and then went on to move to Denver, in America, where she spent three years working in oncology.

Elayne then travelled to Dubai where she spent a further four years as a school nurse, before returning to the UK to continue her career in the school setting. Following the birth of her children, she decided to return to working in a more clinical setting to follow her passion for working with the elderly. She spent a year working in a hospice, and then began working in the care home.

She was happy to be able to persue her passion for working with the elderly, as she began working in palliative care also and has since developed her knowledge further within The Harefield.

Elayne commented: “I love my job – working with the elderly is an absolute privilege and an honour.”
