Trip down memory lane for Sunderland care home ResidentIt was a lovely day for Mary Naisby, a Resident at HC-One’s Ashton Grange care home in Pallion, Sunderland as she enjoyed a trip down memory lane during one of the home’s regular ‘stop the clock’ sessions.

Stop the clock is a regular activity within the home where the team throughout the home take the time out of their day to spend some quality time with the Resident’s learning more about their lives or taking part in an activity of their choosing.

Mary has often enjoyed talking to the team at Ashton Grange about places in the local area and how they have changed during her lifetime. In a recent Sunderland Echo there was a section with old pictures of the East End of Sunderland, so during the stop the clock session, Maintenance Operative Sid Lakeman sat with Mary and looked through the pictures.

Mary shared her memories of the areas in the pictures with Sid and told him some of her favourite stories of her youth and growing up in the East End of Sunderland. A great time was had by both Mary and Sid, with Sid commenting on how fascinating it was to hear about Mary’s life and Mary sharing how much she enjoyed chatting about how things have changed.

Ashton Grange Home Manager, Lesley Dawson said: “Stop the clock is such an important part of the daily lives of both Residents and team members at Ashton Grange, moments like that can really make a real difference to someone’s life.”

Located on St Luke’s Road, Ashton Grange care home offers short and long term care packages for older ladies and gentlemen in Sunderland that require residential care and residential memory care for those living with dementia.
