Residents of HC-One’s The Oakes Care Home in Huddersfield invited a group of young ‘trick or treaters’ to the home this Halloween so they could all celebrate the special day together.
The celebrations were attended by Residents’ relatives and members of the local community who joined in the fun. The home was decked out with creepy crawlies and spider web decorations and pumpkins.
The visitors, who were dressed to impress in their creepy costumes, were invited to meet the residents and take home some treats for their Halloween buckets after they took to the floor dressed as witches and other classic, Halloween characters. They also played classic Halloween games and tucked into a selection of themed snacks and beverages.
Halloween is a celebration observed in a number of countries on 31 October, the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows Day. It is widely believed that many Halloween traditions originated from Celtic harvest festivals which may have pagan roots.
Lisa Bailey, Wellbeing Coordinator said: “Everyone had a great time at the party – it’s a fantastic chance for residents to socialise and enjoy themselves and we strive to do this on as many occasions throughout the year as possible to ensure we’re giving our residents the best quality of life. We’re always looking to create innovative and inspiring activities and events for our residents and Halloween is a key opportunity to do this”.
The Residents said: “We have had a fantastic day; the team have done us proud once again. We laughed and sang and had a wonderful time.”
Stuart Tyrer, The Oakes Care Home Manager, said: “The Residents had a wonderful afternoon and there was a great atmosphere as many of our residents' families came along to join in the fun.” She continued: “A special thanks to the staff and to all the families and friends that were able to join us”
Area Director, Kelly Greensmith-Barton, said: “It sounds as if The Oakes had a great evening and, organising memorable events like this is an important part of how HC-One provides the kindest care.”
