The Power of Music triggers memories at Swallownest

Walter Forest, a Resident of Swallownest Care home, had not played the piano for many years.

He was staying with at the home on the Ellis unit whist his wife recovers from hip surgery and often struggles with his memory.

One day he suddenly got up and started playing the piano on the unit much to the suprise of everyone.

It was a very emotional moment for Walter and all the staff and other Residents found it amazing, enjoying every song he played. Residents even sang along to those that were familiar.

Tracey Marsden, home manager commented:

"It was so emotional and made me realise the power of music, especially if you have memory difficulties."

Walter remarked:

" This really took me back , I forgot I could play!"
