Staff and residents at a local care home have been enjoying a vibrant Diwali celebration.
A number of team members at HC-One’s The Harefield Care Home, in Harefield, Uxbridge, have Indian ethnic heritage and they were delighted to celebrate Diwali with colleagues and residents.
The care home was decorated with Diwali bunting and tables laden with beautiful and colourful Rangoli designs, and some team members wore traditional saris. Housekeepers Nimisha Patel and Shilpa Chavda, and laundry assistant Urmila Dhimer, brought in a delicious vegetarian feast of ethnic Indian dishes that included mattar paneer, samosas, kachoris, spring rolls and chapatis, which staff and residents all enjoyed.
Nimisha Patel, Head Housekeeper at The Harefield, said:
“I was overjoyed to share my culture with the rest of the staff and residents, and it was lovely seeing them all so excited.”
Dorothy Washer, resident at The Harefield, said:
“We really enjoyed the traditional Indian food; it was so tasty.”
Kamal Kumar, another The Harefield resident, said:
“I had a lovely big plate of food, I thought it was delicious.”
Rebekah Axford, Home Manager at The Harefield, said:
“We had a lovely time celebrating Diwali together. The decorations certainly added a bit of vibrant colour, and the food was delicious. It was great to bring everyone together to mark this important occasion.
We employ team members from a range of different ethnic and national backgrounds, and love to celebrate their diversity in whatever positive way we can.”
