Technology keeps Kenton care home Residents connected to four-legged friendSpirits are high at HC-One’s Kirkwood Court care home in Kenton, Newcastle-upon-Tyne as Residents keep busy with a variety of fun-filled activities including a ‘pawsome’ FaceTime catch up call with one their favourite four-legged friends.

Kirkwood Court came up with an innovative way for Residents to spend time with Pets as Therapy dog, Bruce, during the UK wide lockdown. Bruce usually visits Residents every Saturday morning, providing companionship and comfort.

While Bruce was unable to visit physically, Residents enjoyed a virtual visit from their canine companion using FaceTime. Everyone was delighted to be able to see Bruce, who proudly showed off some new tricks he has learnt.

The home has arranged with Bruce’s owner to have two FaceTime calls a week until he is able to visit again and will also be sending letters and personalised videos for every Resident in the home.

Residents at Kirkwood Court have been keeping busy creating handmade cards for to send to their loved ones and have made a video montage of everyone clapping along to the famous nursery rhyme, ‘If You’re Happy and You Know It’.

The local community has also shown Kirkwood Court their support with a special donation of some delicious baked goods from the Gosforth Greggs store.

Angela Douglass, Home Manager at Kirkwood Court said: “It’s truly wonderful to see everyone coming together to stay positive and keep the community spirits high.

“Technology will play a vital role in keeping our Residents connected to their friends and family, as well as Bruce, during these unprecedented times.”
