Sycamores Residents visit Blackpool IlluminationsRecently, Residents at the Sycamores residential and residential memory care home, in Hyde, enjoyed a late trip out to Blackpool to see the illuminations.

Joan Fogg, Joyce Lee and Marion Oliver enjoyed the bus ride down to Blackpool whilst listening to their favourite songs including the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s music era. The Residents enjoyed a good sing song on the journey.

Once they arrived in Blackpool, they got extra wrapped up with blankets and went on a short tour of Blackpool front.

The Residents enjoyed talking and reminiscing about the times they would come to Blackpool on holidays and what type of things they would do. All mentioned the arcades and shared stories about their memories where they had lots of fun on the slot machines. Which was repeated on the evening. They had fun on the two pence slots, watching the pennies fall into the machine and sometimes returning lots of pennies as winnings!

The Residents also had a go at playing other arcade games such as Mario Karting and Hook-a-duck.

After spending some time in the arcades, they then settled in a local chip shop where they enjoyed a fish and chip supper while reminiscing over past memories.

One of the Residents commented, “I used to bring my girls here every year, but I haven’t been for a long time and it’s reminding me of all the fun times I’ve shared with my family.”

After a fun-filled evening, they then loaded back onto the minibus and enjoyed a slow drive though the illumination displays; seeing many eye-catching beautiful displays.

Everyone had a fantastic time, returning home at 9pm, and enjoying a hot drink before relaxing.

Renee Bell, Wellbeing Coordinator, commented, “It is lovely to see the Residents still engaging in activities in the evening time.”
