Swallownest do their bit to help UkraineLike many people throughout the globe, Residents and Colleagues at HC-One’s Swallownest care home, in Sheffield, which offers residential and nursing care, have been so worried about the Ukrainian people during these difficult times and as a collective, they decided they wanted to help.

So, those involved at the home pledged to become a drop off point for ‘Support Ukraine UK’ and began to collect much needed supplies from the people in their local community to help many of the Ukrainian families who have been affected.

Support Ukraine UK have been so pleased by the response and the home have received thousands of much needed items including warm hats and gloves for children and adults, toiletries and basic first aid, water and food.

Dawn and Alison (pictured), from the wellbeing team at the home, commented, “We can’t believe how many people have arrived with all manner of things. So many people wanted to help. It’s amazing!”

“Doing something like this has helped people to feel like they can do something to help. We are not powerless.”

Christopher Parker (pictured), who is a Resident at the home, remarked, “I’ve been feeling so sorry for the people in Ukraine when I’ve seen the news on TV and when we’ve talked together about it.”

“Doing something practical to help has really made me feel useful and more positive about the world when I see the many donations made by lots of people. It makes me realise that whilst there’s bad things in the world, there is also much compassion and love for others too.”

Amanda Fields, Care Home Manager, added, “When we decided we would support the Ukrainian people and we announced we would collect donations, we thought we may get a bag of useful items. We did not predict the absolutely fantastic response we have received.”

“It is clear, we are all very much concerned for our Ukrainian brothers and sisters, and we wish to help them. What I imagined maybe a bag, has turned into more than 30! These include so many beautiful notes from many people sending messages of love, hope and kindness. I am so incredibly proud of everyone.”
