They started a long-distance relationship, and they used to write to each other every day, and they would visit each other on alternate weekends, travelling by train and bus.
They married on March 5, 1955, at St John the Evangelist Church, Knotty Ash, Liverpool, which is where Norma is originally from. After a week’s honeymoon in Colwyn Bay, the couple began married life in Orme Road, Newcastle under Lyme.
After they became parents, they moved to Knutton, where they lived in the same house for their entire marriage. John was a toolmaker at Rists for 35-years, while Norma worked in administration.
Following retirement, John and Norma loved to travel to several counties including America, Russia, Poland, Austria and their favourite place to visit is Italy. Norma regularly visits John at Brindley Court along with their daughter Christine.
When speaking on the secret to a long and happy marriage, John Edwards said:
“The secret to a long marriage is having a dog that I could take for a walk to clear the air after a row.”
The married couple also received a card from King Charles III and Queen consort Camilla.
