St George’s celebrations at Chester care homeResidents and Colleagues at Lauren Court celebrated St. George’s Day by hosting a party within the home.

The patron saint was honoured with activities including a St. George’s Day quiz, and entertainment from Sandra Currie, filled with music from the war years as well as patriotic songs. Discussion soon moved to what Residents loved most about living in England.

Saint George became the patron saint of England in 1350. Most famously known in legend for slaying a dragon, it is thought he was actually a high-ranking officer in the Roman army who was killed for his Christian beliefs in around AD 303.

Residents remarked how wonderfully Sandra sang, as well as how much they enjoyed listening and singing along to the war time songs.

Sarah Molloy, Home Manager, commented: “it was such a lovely atmosphere and it was honestly touching to hear the Residents sing along to the war time music together.”
