HC-One’s St Clare’s Court Care Home in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham say goodbye to one of their dearest friends.
Family members, friends and the team at St Clare’s Court attended the memorial service of Maurice Kay, as well as the local police station and the Police Commissioner.
Maurice was born on the 9th June 1931 before passing away at the age of 87 earlier this month. He was one of the first Residents to stay at St Clare’s Court and was a truly kind and friendly gentleman who made friends easily.
He enjoyed a game of dominoes with a group of Residents that followed him into the home and used to join in in all of the activities, with scrabble being one of his favourite pastimes. He often checked the spelling or questioned what the word meant.
The Community Police Officer called into the home when they first opened and introduced herself to Maurice who was in the police force for 40 years. After enquiring about his police number, she had an epaulette made and framed for him, which the Police Commissioner and the Mini Police presented him with.
A rose bush was planted at St Clare’s Court along with a beautiful plaque in Maurice’s memory.
St Clare’s Courts Home Manager, Jason Parkinson commented:
“It was a lovely afternoon for a very special gentleman who touched the hearts of everyone he met.”
