Residents at
Greenways Court, residential and residential dementia care home have been having lots of fun this spring.
On the 12th April, David, Maureen, Catherine and Sue hopped on the minibus for a trip to Auckland Castle which is home to the Bishop of Durham. The Residents thought the castle had a very spiritual feel. To the point one of the Residents asked if she could say a pray as she felt close to God in the chapel.
Everyone had a spot of lunch at the castle then a wander through the grounds, it started to rain a little so the Residents made their way back to the minibus. The Residents had a lovely time and thought the architecture was beautiful.
David had a lovely time on the trip as he reminisced fond memories when he used to visit the castle with this wife.
Additionally, the ‘Knit and Knatter Club’ has been a huge hit amongst some of the Residents had Greenways Court.
May, one of the Residents came up with the idea of setting up a knitting club to help knit items for charity and the local community. The group decided they would knit squares and sew them together to create blankets.
The idea for when the blanket is finished is to donate it to the Salvation Army so they can be given to the homeless. Residents’ families are also getting involved to create as many blankets as possible.
Freda and her daughter have been knitting whilst having their visits and have made great progress on the blanket squares so far.
The on the 9th April, the Easter Bunny paid a special visit to the care home to deliver lots of special Easter treats.
Colleagues escorted the Easter Bunny around the home for each of the Residents to have their photos taken. Everyone received an Easter egg, some delicious Ferrero Roches and some sweet treats.
Everyone had a good laugh and Easter Sunday went down a treat.
Kinga Kowaliczek, Care Home Manager, commented, “Everyone has had so much fun over the past couple of week! We look forward to the warmer weather for more trips and outdoor activities.”
