Spennymoor care home ensures Resident maintains his independenceHC-One’s Lothian House Care Home in Spennymoor, County Durham have gone above and beyond for one of their Residents in order for him to maintain his independence.

Raymond Wintersgill likes to take a stroll into the local town every day where he can browse the shops at his leisure and pop into the local Wetherspoon’s every now and again for a refreshment.

Raymond has Parkinson’s and struggles with the keypad entry system to access the front door of the home. To ensure that he could come and go as he pleased, Raymond spoke with the home manager Jill to suggest alternative options for access.

Jill promised that she would look into this for him and immediately phoned the Property helpdesk at HC-One’s Support Office in Darlington. A couple of days later the contractor arrived at Lothian House to fit a fob system to the front door for Raymond to use.

Raymond was presented with his very own fob, which he promised to take good care of. He was over the moon that he can now open the door without having to ask anyone for help. He commented:

“Thank you so much Jill for sorting this out for me. It is so easy to use and I am able to now go for a walk without having to ask someone to help me open the door. It’s brilliant!”

Lothian House’s Home Manager, Jill Carr commented:

“We are so delighted to be able to give Raymond some of his independence back. He comes and goes as he pleases and that makes him so happy.

This is a huge part of our ethos at HC-One, delivering the kindest care, personalised to each Resident.”
