Special birthday celebrations at Dukinfield care homeThe Beeches care home in Dukinfield hosted an extra special party as Resident Mary celebrated her 100th birthday with family and friends.

Mary’s birthday started with her opening all of her birthday cards, including a care from the Queen, which Mary couldn’t wait to show all the other Residents around the home.

This was followed by a visit from the Lady Mayor of Tameside, who came to wish Mary a happy 100th birthday with a card and bouquet of flowers. Fellow Residents were also delighted to meet the Lady Mayor, getting photos taken and chatting with them.

The Beeches also arranged for singer and guitarist, Steve Kenny, to perform a number of classic 50s and 60s hits at the home. Everyone enjoyed singing and dancing along, followed by drinks and a slice of birthday cake.

Kitchen staff at the home also prepared a special birthday buffet, which went down a storm with all the guests at the party.

Mary, who has lived in Dukinfield her whole life, has lived at The Beeches since January 2017 and has struck up great relationships with her fellow Residents, particularly Margaret. Mary married her husband, Harry, and is mother to one son, Alan, and has two grandsons and one great grandson.

Mary said: “I had a lovely birthday, it’s been really nice to see so many people here to celebrate with me.”

Mavis, a fellow Resident at The Beeches, said: “Mary’s 100th birthday is such a special occasion and we’ve all had such a nice afternoon. The card from the Queen is something you don’t see every day. The Mayor was nice and chatted with everyone.”

Sade, Wellbeing Coordinator, said: “It was an honour to be asked to organise such a big occasion by Mary’s family. It’s such an amazing achievement to reach 100, and it was great to see Residents’ amazement at the Queen’s card and telegram.

“The afternoon was fantastic and enjoyed by all. It was brilliant to see Mary’s family smiling along with her, as well as the positive feedback our team received for all the hard work we did in preparing the party.”
