Special 100th birthday celebrations for Miskin care home ResidentA week of celebrations was had at Aberpennar Court care home, in Mountain Ash, as Edith Roberts celebrated her 100th birthday with fellow Residents, Colleagues and Relatives. 

On Wednesday 24th August As part of the celebrations, West End Star Peter Karrie, who is one of Edith’s favourite entertainers, came into the home to sing. She was thrilled to see him as he performed some of his classic songs, including ‘Music of the Night’ (Edith’s favourite). 

The entertainment continued on Friday 26th August as another West End singer, James, came to perform for all Residents, which everyone enjoyed and sang along to. 

Following on, a surprise party was organised for Edith, with a buffet lunch for everyone to indulge in. Edith was presented with a picture and card (which fellow Residents designed), she was very grateful. 

On Sunday 28th August, which was Edith’s official birthday, Carole and Ian, her daughter and son-in-law, came to the 47-bed residential and nursing care home to visit. Where Edith opened her card from the Queen, and described it as, “Beautiful.” She also received more than 100 cards and presents from well-wishers!

Edith’s family enjoyed the buffet in the garden with her and Edith enjoyed being the star of the show. Pictured with family members in the photos, she said, “I have had a wonderful day, I will never forget.”

Carole and Ian sent a lovely thank you card to Colleagues at the home, which was much appreciated, it read “We want to thank you all for letting us celebrate my mother’s 100th birthday at the home. We all really appreciate the aims and efforts out into the lovely buffet and decorations. Thank you so much.”

Home Manager, Leanne Gunter, commented, “It was nice to see celebrations being held, and to see the enjoyment on Edith’s face. A very enjoyable day and Edith had a fantastic birthday.”
