Special 100th birthday celebrations for Beeston ResidentToday at Silverwood residential, nursing and memory care home in Beeston, Notts, everyone was so overjoyed to celebrate Beryl’s 100th Birthday.

Beryl Garrard, pictured, was born in Derby, on Gower Street. Her family moved to Sherwood when she was four years old and her father was a Confectionist Rep; thus, developing Beryl’s love for chocolate! Growing up, she enjoyed school and being in the hairdressers (which her Dad had bought).

At the age of 21, Beryl went into the Women's Auxiliary Air Force and caught the eye of Flight Sargent, Arthur.

Arthur's determination paid off and after serving in the Air Force, they married and went on to have five children. Sadly, Arthur died young. But with determination, Beryl fought on and brought up her children by herself. Working hard, Beryl became the manager of the Co-op Greengrocers in her later life.

Beryl came to live here at Silverwood on 20th November 2019 and enjoys activities including singing with fellow Residents Penny, Patty and Joy.

For her birthday, Betty loved the celebrations and a big buffet was made, which was described as, “Absolutely lovely!”

Entertainer, Jayne Darling, came to sing on the day, and a pony visited Residents too!

Beryl sported a lovely tiara throughout the day and enjoyed it thoroughly.

Debra Meynell, Care Home Manager, commented, “It is wonderful to see Beryl so happy on her special day.”
