Sparks fly at Boston care home as it celebrates Resident’s diamond wedding anniversary HC-One’s The Gardens care home in Boston is celebrating its Resident’s diamond wedding anniversary.

John and Beatrice Bird, who both live in Park Place, a private, independent village in Boston, are marking sixty years of marriage together. The couple moved to the village in February 2018, with Mrs Bird residing at The Gardens care home and Mr Bird staying in an independent living apartment.

John met 16-year-old Beatrice at age 17, when he was working as an electrician and was called out to Beatrice’s mother’s house after a mouse had chewed through some wiring.

Later that day, John knocked on Beatrice’s door once again and asked to take her out to the cinema, to which he received a positive response.

After realising there was a spark between them, John and Beatrice married in St James Church, Grimsby, on 27th December 1958.

The couple went on to become very well-respected people within Boston, after becoming owners of the town’s largest fish and chip restaurant in 1968.

In recognition of their diamond wedding anniversary, John and Beatrice were also delighted to receive a card from the Queen.

Beatrice said: “John and I only met because of a naughty little mouse, and then the second I clapped eyes on John I fell in love with him.”

Vicky Barty, Home Manager at The Gardens, said: “John and Beatrice are a lovely couple and it was a great pleasure helping them to celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary at The Gardens. Helping Residents make special memories like these is an important part of how HC-One helps provide the kindest care.”
