Singing for the brain is a success at Merthyr Tydfil care homeResidents at The Daffodils care home in Merthyr Tydfil enjoyed a sing-along at their local football club as part of an initiative to enhance wellbeing of those living with dementia.

The singing group, which was established seven years ago by the Alzheimer’s Society, is attended by Residents at The Daffodils on a weekly basis.

Singing for the Brain provides a safe and friendly environment, where people can come together for a catch up and to sing their hearts out.

The singing has proved to have amazing benefits for people’s wellbeing, as it is a therapeutic experience for many Residents. Those who have been unable to speak in the past have even been able to join in with the singing along with playing the various percussion instruments available.

Janine Marouf, Home Manager at The Daffodils, said: “Singing for the Brain has brought a new lease of life to many of our Residents. It’s amazing to see them smiling as they make new friends and sing along to some classic hits.”
