Sheraton Court enjoys ‘Summer Celebration’ with Hartlepool community for Care Home Open Week 2022Sheraton Court, in Hartlepool, Teesside welcomed visitors and guests from the local community to the home to participate in this year’s Care Home Open Week celebrations from 27th June to 3rd July 2022.

The 80-bed friendly, purpose-built, residential, and residential dementia care home, which is owned by HC-One, was delighted to open its doors to celebrate Care Home Open Week with Residents, Colleagues, friends, family, and the wider community.

Care Home Open Week is a national event hosted by Championing Social Care, designed to connect care homes with their local communities. This year, homes across the UK enjoyed being able to celebrate with communities in person again, having marked the annual event virtually during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sheraton Court’s chosen theme for this year’s Care Home Open Week was ‘Summer Celebration’. Throughout the week, Residents, Colleagues, families and friends enjoyed a variety of fun-filled activities culminating in an end-of-week celebration at the home.

On Friday 1st July, Sheraton Court hosted a variety of fun filled activities, entertainment, and refreshments throughout the day which were enjoyed by all, including entertainment from the Hartlepool Ukulele Band, Marie Bates with Maurice and Matthew the donkeys and a visit from the West View Primary School year 2 and 3 pupils. Neil Nobel from EE and the BT Care Home Companian programme came along to meet the Residents and speak about the ongoing project.

There was lots going on and the Residents had so much fun. They were up singing and dancing. Everyone was petting the donkeys and they were a huge hit with the Residents.

Sheraton Court was decorated especially for the occasion, with bright colours and summer themed décor to complement the theme of the week. There was an ice cream van for everyone to enjoy- the Resident very happy to get a lovely ‘Mr Whippy’.

The celebration was a chance for everyone to come together as a community, and to learn more about life at Sheraton Court.

Visitors also enjoyed learning from Colleagues in the home about what a rewarding career in care looks like and finding out about opportunities for community engagement and volunteering roles to support their local care community.

Carole Thomson, Home Manager at Sheraton Court Care Home, said,

“We were delighted to be able to open the doors of Sheraton Court again to welcome in our local community and bring everyone together to celebrate Care Home Open Week 2022. Everyone had an amazing time.

We are proud to support Hartlepool, and our Open Week celebrations provided a great opportunity to reconnect with our local community after the challenges of the pandemic, and to support community engagement which is so important to our Residents, Colleagues and the local area.

The week was also a chance for us to showcase what life at Sheraton Court is like, share career and volunteering opportunities, and remind our local community that our kind care teams and facilities are here for them if they ever need support.”
