Residents at HC-One’s Ashgrove Care Home, in Hounslow, have been enjoying sensory doll activities that help them recover life memories and experience feelings of calmness and happiness.
Colleagues at the 49-bed care home, which offers nursing dementia care, are always exploring new and creative ways of expanding activities for Residents to deliver the kindest possible care. Sensory therapy dolls have been recently introduced into the home, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive.
Sensory dolls can have significant benefits for some people with dementia, especially those in the later stages. They can promote feelings of relaxation and pleasure and are considered a form of effective therapy.
One Resident found the dolls encouraged her to start talking about her grandchildren, while others were able to experience a sense of relaxation and tactile physical interaction.
Home Manager Jane Kingsmill said: “Introducing the sensory dolls was a genuinely enriching experience for some of our Residents. You could tell by the looks on their faces how positively they responded. We look forward to using the dolls to encourage similar responses in the future.”
