Sanctuary donkeys make some care home friends
Residents and colleagues at HC-One’s Shaw Side welcomed some very special visitors to the home earlier in the week when Manchester Donkey Sanctuary paid a visit.

Donkeys Aura and Charlie arrived at the home and made some special friends.  Residents were able to take it in turns stroking and making a fuss of them.

Charlie, 11 year old, once worked as a beach donkey at Scarborough and was well cared for before going to the groups visitor centre. The other is Aura, a 9 yr old girl who has white bits on her face that looks like a mask. Originally, from Ireland, Aura and a friend came to the sanctuary, as sadly their owners could no longer look after them.

Both animals enjoyed tasting hay and being patted and fussed over by our Residents. A very enjoyable morning for all.

Residents commented included:

“Aren’t all animals lovely, the donkeys are beautiful.”

“I’ve never seen a donkey before it’s amazing!”

Home manager, Joan Walton said:

“The Residents love meeting Charlie and Aura the donkeys which came along to the home and enjoyed playing and making a fuss of them. It’s great for the Residents to interact with Charlie and Aura and it was a great way to spend our afternoon”
