Royal Wedding celebrations at Grosvenor HouseIt has been a week full of celebrations for the Royal Wedding at HC-One’s Grosvenor House Care Home in Harrogate, North Yorkshire.

In the run up to the big event, eight Residents, 2 volunteers and Lezlee Leahy, the Wellbeing Co-Ordinator, decided to write a Royal themed poem to mark the occasion at their monthly creative writing group.

Rule Britannia
We have a special heritage of which we’re very proud,
A patriotic nation who can shout out loud,
We sing our national anthem with happiness and joy
A love for our royal family which nothing can destroy.

The longest serving monarch was crowned in fifty three
Everyone crowded round their black and white TV
To see the pomp and circumstance unfold before their eyes,
The interest of the world goes on and never dies.

All their controversies are in the public glare
Births, deaths and marriages, with the world, they share.
We are looking forward to a royal wedding again
A toast to Harry and Megan with a magnum of champagne.

Our unique royal family is the envy of the world;
The next chapter of their story is still to be unfurled.

To celebrate the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the home enjoyed a garden party in the sunshine, where they had a TV for everyone to watch the event.

Residents then enjoyed a British meal of fish and chips out of paper followed by strawberries and cream.

Lezlee Leahy, Grosvenor House’s Wellbeing Co-Ordinator, commented:

“It was a glorious day and Residents, families and staff all thoroughly enjoyed themselves. A big thank you to Julie for doing all of the decorations outside and to Stuart for the delicious meal.”
