Mountview Care Home, in Rothley, Leicester, is appealing for kind-hearted people to send birthday cards to a resident who is turning 102.
Mountview resident Edna Webb, 102, was born on April 10, 1923. Edna has led an exciting life. A passionate reader with a soft spot for romantic novels, she spent her wartime years working in an ammunition factory, contributing to the nation’s efforts with grit and determination.
After the war, Edna traded factory life for family life by raising seven children – including two sets of twins. Today, her legacy continues to grow, with 20 great- and grandchildren who adore her.
While Edna insists that she doesn’t want a big fuss for her 102nd birthday, her plans reveal a day filled with a quiet joy lunch with her son, and morning tea and cake with her daughters.
The Mountview kitchen team is also whipping up a homemade birthday cake to sweeten the celebration. Colleagues at Mountview Care Home have a surprise up their sleeves – they are rallying the community to flood Edna’s day with love in the form of birthday cards.
When asked what her secret is to a long life and what she’d like for her birthday, Edna Webb replied:
“My secret to living a long life is a spoonful of cod liver oil every day!”

"Whether it’s a store-bought card, a handmade masterpiece, or just a simple note, we want to fill her day with lots of love and laughter. It would mean so much to Edna, reading the well wishes and messages from others in the local community.”
