Roseberry Court welcomes new incredible ResidentHC-One’s Roseberry Court in Redcar welcomed a new Resident last month, Maurice Green.

Maurice was born on 14th September 1925 and met his wife of 63 years, Catherine May, on the number 63 bus, which still runs to this day from Redcar to Middlesbrough. Maurice sat behind her and instantly noticed her hair, which he commented was Catherine’s crowning glory.

He didn’t have the courage to speak to her until fate intervened and he bumped into her again at a dance at the Swan Hotel in Redcar.

Catherine and Maurice married on 25th October 1952 and went on to have three boys: Raymond and then twin boys Andrew and Stephen.

They loved travelling the world together, with Australia being Catherine’s favourite place. Here, Maurice went on to climb Ayer’s Rock, a sacred Aborigine place that today can’t be climbed at all.

Athletic Maurice also played hockey in the position of Left Half or Left wing until he was 70 years old as well as having completed one London marathon and 40 half marathons in the Great North Run, running his last at the amazing age of 83.

Welcome Maurice!

Maurice commented:

“Catherine was such an amazing dancer, whilst I was rubbish! I didn’t talk to her on the bus because I wasn’t sure if she was a married lady, but I’m so glad that she became my wife.”
