Roseberry Court celebrate the 250th anniversary of Captain Cook’s first voyageHC-One’s Roseberry Court Care Home in Redcar, Cleveland celebrate the 250th anniversary of Captain James Cooks first ever voyage.

Angela Lister Evans, whose mum is at Roseberry Court, has created costume pieces which celebrate Captain Cook and his voyage with a selection of interactive jacket pockets, map details and embroideries for the audience to discover and converse.

Captain Cook, born in Marton-in-Cleveland, Yorkshire was a naval captain, navigator and explorer who set off on his first voyage in 1968 and discovered and chartered New Zealand and the Great Barrier Reef of Australia on his shop HMB Endeavour. 

The display has created a talking point for the team at Roseberry Court, their Residents, families, friends and visitors and will be on display throughout the summer for the local community to interact with.

Resident Irene Barber commented:

“I went to art school years ago, so this has brought back many memories for me. 

I never progressed any further but this is an incredible piece and I think Angela will go far.”


Roseberry Court’s Home Manager, Alison Corner commented:

“This is a fantastic display and it’s creating a lot of interest. We are very proud to be able to have this display on loan from Angela, who’s mum is one of our lovely Residents.”
