Reunited theatre friends belt out songs together via Zoom at Wednesbury care homeTwo old friends who were reunited last month on Zoom are continuing on with their virtual meet-ups and are reminiscing about their theatre days through song and dance.

Betty Pittaway, a Resident at HC-One’s Dovedale Court care home in the West Midlands, has been regularly meeting up with her old friend on the video chatting platform.

The two were reunited last month through local charity, Kissing It Better, and since then Betty hasn’t been able to contain her excitement about the virtual calls.

Still elated from her call, Betty said: “I love taking part.”

Kissing It Better CEO and Co-Founder, Jill Fraser, has been organising the video calls on a regular basis with the intention of breaking down the barriers of isolation during a time where social interaction is being limited.

The group call comprises of care home Residents, students and teachers, and is a way for them to all come together to speak about their experiences and feelings during the pandemic, as well as sharing life stories and simply having a chat.

During the first call, Betty shared her memories of working in a theatre and was surprised to learn that a gentleman on the call was involved with the same theatre.

As the pair talked, they soon realised that they in fact knew each other and continued to reminisce about their time together in amateur dramatics.

Since then, Betty and her virtual friends, both old and new, have been meeting up regularly.

And the group became the stars of national news recently as they had a sing and a dance on Zoom together.

Dovedale Court Home Manager, Dawn Allen, said: “It was great seeing such fantastic interaction and excellent to see known faces on the news.”
