Residents set sail as The Beeches care home enjoys barge tripResidents at The Beeches care home in Dukinfield, Tameside set sail as they hopped on board for their annual barge trip.

The trip transports Residents from Marple Lock to Poynton with the New Horizons Canal Boat Trust, passing by scenic views of the canal as the boat sails down the river.

Residents enjoyed a delicious picnic on the barge, prepared by the chefs at The Beeches, while watching the horses frolicking in the fields nearby.

On the way back to Marple, everyone stopped off and enjoyed an ice cream or ice lolly to cool down in the summer sunshine.

Jean and Audrey even had a look around the little gift shop on the barge, where they treated themselves to some beautiful gifts.

Audrey said: “It’s been such a nice day, I am definitely glad I came along.”

Ann added: “Today has been so relaxing, sailing along without a care in the world. The weather has been lovely and the staff have worked so hard.”

Sade, Wellbeing Coordinator at The Beeches, said: “The barge trip is one of the most highly-anticipated trips for our Residents over summer time. A few of the ladies and gentlemen hadn’t been on a barge before, so it was brilliant to give them this experience for the first time.”
