Residents experience talking newspaper at Mayford care homeHC-One’s The Grange care home in Mayford has introduced a ‘talking newspaper’ for Residents to listen to thanks to local charity, Woking Talking Newspapers.

Woking Talking Newspapers is a charity founded almost fifty years ago by Roland Hill which provides audio speakers and flash drives of recorded news from the Woking News & Mail every week for people living the Woking area who are blind or partially sighted.

The Grange organised for Woking Talking Newspapers to offer their service in the home, so that Residents could enjoy listening to the local news. Mr John Goodridge, a Trustee of the charity attended the first session at the home, where he joined Residents and their family members listening to the news over a glass of sherry with cheese and biscuits.

Residents commented that it was such an enjoyable, sociable event that they are looking forward to enjoying it together on weekly basis.

Dil Perera, Home Manager at The Grange commented:

“Holding and reading a full newspaper can be a tiring task for some people. I would like to thank Woking Talking Newspapers for giving our Residents the opportunity to keep up with the local news once more.”

HC-One Area Director, Helen Finlay said:

“The talking newspaper is a great idea! Organising memorable events like this is an important part of how HC-One provides the kindest care.”
