Residents enjoys men’s day out to Tanfield RailwayResidents at HC-One’s Jack Dormand Care Home in Horden, Peterlee, enjoyed a men’s day out to Tanfield Railway.

Donna Price, Wellbeing Co-Ordinator at Jack Dormand, and Katherine Capel, Care Assistant, took Derek Unthank, Frank Clarke, Harold Nelson, Tom Robinson and Ted Beadle to Tanfield Railway in Stanley.

Derek used to work on the trains when he was younger as a wheel tapper and has always loved them.

They boarded the train at East Tanfield after a refreshment break and went on to the Causey Arch and Andrews House where they stopped for lunch.

The men all reminisced on how the trains were just like when they were young, being steam trains, and enjoyed looking at all of the views out of the window and speaking to the different passengers on board.

Resident Derek Unthank commented:

“It has been a great day and brought back lots of memories back from when I worked on the trains.”
