Residents enjoy visit from adorable furry friends at Sheffield care homeResidents at Swallownest care home in Sheffield were delighted to welcome some new furry friends to the home for an afternoon of relaxing animal therapy.

Two beautiful black alpacas from local organisation Orion Tree paid a visit to the home, much to the Residents’ delight.

Residents were joined by their family and friends for the session, where everyone enjoyed learning about the alpacas’ diet, habitat and background. The handlers also handed round some sheep wool and alpaca wool, so people could feel the difference in texture between them.

The visit was a popular activity amongst many Residents and the alpacas even made a special visit to Residents’ bedrooms where requested.

Charlie said: “This is marvellous, what a lovely surprise and what a splendid chap this alpaca is.” Fellow Resident Phyllis added: “I haven’t seen these animals before but I love them. I hope they can come back.”

Amanda Fields, Home Manager at Swallownest, said: “Animal therapy is one of the most popular activities in our home and makes such an incredible difference to Residents’ wellbeing. The alpacas caused quite a stir and made such a positive impression on everyone attending the session.”
