Residents create blooming marvellous sensory gardenResidents and the team at HC-One’s Beaconsfield Court Care Home in Barnard Castle, County Durham have been busy preparing for the annual garden competition, together agreeing that they would like to create a sensory garden on the patio.

With the kind help of The Marrwood Trust, who donated an amazing £100 towards the garden, Beaconsfield Court were able to purchase a solar powered fountain for their garden.

Residents families and team members have kindly been donating plants, which the Residents have potted. Future plans include creating raised flower beds for everyone to enjoy.

Plants have been picked to ensure that they have nice scents, touch, colours, and wind chimes and other garden decorations have been added for sound. To add to the touch element, Residents, Relatives and friends have all been busy knitting flowers to create a touch element to the garden fence.

Everyone enjoyed the whole process, the planning, shopping at the garden centres, planting and now being able to sit out there and enjoy the scenery.

Resident Dora Smith commented:

“All of the plants have really cheered the place up, especially the knitted flowers. I love spending time in the garden now.”

Beaconsfield Court’s Home Manager, Laura Langridge commented:

“The sensory garden is a beautiful place full of colours and smells. The Residents have thoroughly enjoyed entering this competition.”

The Mayor of Barnard Castle and the Local Councillor both visited the home recently and were so impressed with their garden that they have asked for poppies to be knitted for Armitage Day.
