Residents attend dementia friendly screeningFive Residents from HC-One’s Grampian Court Care Home in Peterlee, County Durham attended the dementia friendly screening of The Greatest Showman at Cineworld, Dalton Park.

To mark Dementia Action Week, Cineworld have teamed up with the Alzheimer’s Society to plan the free event, which is part of a long-term aim of developing a Dementia friendly community.

Staff from Cineworld and volunteers from the Alzheimer’s Society were on hand to offer support and assistance once inside the cinema. After our Residents were seated, Julie McClurey, Wellbeing Co-Ordinator at Grampian Court, went back into the foyer to get everyone’s refreshments.

All of our Residents were given a soft drink, some popcorn and some jelly babies to enjoy whilst the film was on. They really enjoyed the story of PT Burnham and couldn’t keep their hands and feet still when the music started.

Resident Elvin Hewitson commented:

“It was great to be able to visit the cinema again, after such a long time.”

Grampian Court’s Home Manager, Judith Tully commented:

“This is the first time that Residents from Grampian Court have had the opportunity to attend an event hosted by the Alzheimer’s Society and it is great how Cineworld have helped to make this a dementia friendly event.”
