Resident emulates Al Jolson, fulfilling lifelong dream Donald Bamberry, a Resident at HC-One’s Drummohr Care Home in Wallyford recently experienced his lifelong dream come true.

88-year-old Donald has always emulated Al Jolson ever since he was a young boy and wished to perform his songs.

His dream came true when Marie McLachlan, Wellbeing Coordinator, arranged a private recording session with Gary Coupland of Funbox Entertainment (previously part of The Singing Kettle legend).

Gary visits the home every month to entertain the Residents and every time he’s there, he gets Donald up to help him sing.

Funbox is a family show with performers Anya Scott-Rodgers, Gary Coupland and Kevin Macleod, with the aim to appeal to a range of ages.

During their recording session, Donald emulated the music of Al Jolson, his hero and musical magician.

Drummohr’s Home Manager, Dawn Barrett commented:

“We love making Resident’s wishes come true and couldn’t wait to surprise Donald with this experience.

The smile on his face when he came back to the home and hearing his masterpiece was really special.”
