Resident at Redesdale Court experiences beach access!Residents at Redesdale Court in North Shields which offers residential and residential memory care, for those living with dementia, were treated to a day out to the coast by the wellbeing team.

The staff and Residents stopped off at the Rendezvous Cafe where they enjoyed a hot drink and piece of fruit cake with a view of the beach and sea which was a wonderful sight.

Whilst enjoying their tea and cake they noticed a flag on the promenade advertising a charity called ‘Beach Access North East’ so they went over to see what it was all about.

To their amazement it was a loan scheme of beach access equipment which was totally free of charge, all the charity asked for was a small donation towards this service.

One of the Residents Brenda, volunteered to try a beach wheelchair and Alan the bus driver pushed her down on to the beach which she thoroughly enjoyed.  She was smiling and talking to the dogs who were running around on the beach.

One Colleague commented, "What an amazing charity which should definitely be promoted, I never knew this type of thing existed and for just a donation it was truly amazing and a fantastic experience".

The Residents loved being out in the fresh air and being near to the sea.

Daniel Ridley, Care Home Manager remarked, “It is great to get the Residents out and about and get some fresh air.  Also ‘Beach Access North-East’ charity is such an amazing charity for those who are unable to access the promenade or beach areas and we will definitely be using their service again”.
