Today at
Manor House in Cambridgeshire which provides residential, nursing and nursing dementia care, Residents have been getting outside in the warm weather and gardening.
In a bid to encourage Residents to get outside and enjoy the sunshine, Wellbeing staff have been recommending that they give some gardening a shot. There is an old rowboat in the garden which has been worked on collectively by Residents, they sprayed it with bright colours to make it more inviting for everyone.
Once everybody was happy with all the colour on the rowboat, Residents got to work in planting a range of perennial and seasonal plants, allowing the garden to have a spot of colour all year round. The day was rounded off by watering all the plants and flowers in the garden.
Speaking afterwards, Wellbeing staff praised how much the Residents got stuck into the gardening, and Residents commented on how much fun they had. One Resident said, “It was such a lovely day to spend outside, the garden really looks colourful”.
Bheki, the Home Manager said, “The colours and life that can be seen in a present community space has brought enjoyment and a sense of achievement to the home, with something that will be a long term feature”.
