Remembrance Service at Ashton View
Approximately forty people gathered together at HC-One’s Ashton View Nursing Home for the home's first remembrance service for loved ones who have passed away in 2018 and in previous years.
The service, led by Pastor Ray Tate from Beacon Church, included singing, poetry, prayer and personal reflection.

The Home Manager of Ashton View Nursing Home, Christopher Millington commented:

“I was delighted to welcome so many people to the service, including friends from Beacon Church, North Ashton Brass Band and Wigan & Leigh Hospice – my team and I are committed to working with partners in the community for the benefit of the people we support and their Relatives”.

The event took place in the recently renovated roof top garden, which was in the main part renovated in memory of someone who lived at Ashton View Nursing Home.

Amanda Isherwood, an Educator with the Hospice in your Care Home team at Wigan and Leigh Hospice, attended the service.

She said:

“It was a wonderful initiative which offered bereaved Relatives the opportunity to gather together and remember their loved ones at this special time of year.  The reading of a poem in Italian was a wonderful example of the person-centred care delivered at Ashton View and demonstrated how the residents are respected and honoured in the memories of those who have been privileged to care for them.  The Hospice in your Care Home team look forward to continuing our collaborative work with Ashton View in 2019”.

At the end of the service, people were invited to leave messages of remembrance on the tree – everyone then gathered to share food and fond memories of their loved ones.

Speaking after the event, Martin Holmes, Turnaround Manager, said:

“This special event was planned following comments from the team at Ashton View about their desire to remember people as we approach Christmas.  At HC-One we are committed to delivering kind care and this event reflects our commitment to caring for all members of our community”.
