Redcar care home initiate Dementia Friend training sessionsHC-One’s Roseberry Court Care Home in Redcar, Cleveland have introduced Dementia Friend training sessions where they aim to change the way people think, act and talk about dementia.

Dementia training is teaching everyone that dementia is not a natural part of ageing but is caused by a group of symptoms that cause memory decline or other thinking skills, which can affect communication and carrying out everyday tasks.

However, it is possible to live well with dementia and the lovely team at Roseberry Court want to know as much information about dementia as possible to help to assist their Residents.

Roseberry Court’s Carers, Zoe Simpson and Christine Barnes commented:

“We have taken so much away from this training session and would recommend it to anyone. We will be wearing our badges with pride.”

Roseberry Court’s Home Manager, Alison Corner commented:

“We are proud and honoured to join the Dementia Friend’s family. Roseberry Court is a safe haven for The Herbert Protocol and we feel it is vitally important to support and raise awareness within the local community.”

The Herbert Protocol is a national scheme being introduced by West Yorkshire Police as well as other agencies. It encourages carers, families, friends or neighbours to gather information about a person with dementia that will help the police find them if they go missing.

Roseberry Court will be holding their next session on the 23rd August and will be inviting Residents’ families to come along.
