Recognised Branston care home painter encourages fellow ResidentsFor Residents at nursing and nursing dementia care home, Branston Court, in Staffordshire, art class has been going down a storm as they learn from fellow Resident and recognised painter, Roma.

Roma Brien has been a Resident at Branston Court for a year, and prior to this, she attended art classes where her talent for watercolour painting was spotting by a national greeting card company.

In turn, some of Roma’s artwork was reproduced for greeting card companies.

Since arriving at Branston Court, Roma has participated in many craft classes and always enjoys them.

During the last year, Colleagues have come to know Roma well, chatting to her family has given them lots of information to help Roma settle in and support her wellbeing.

Roma’s son kindly brought in some of her paintings, these were shared with the team and fellow Residents.

With support, Roma talked about her artwork and shared her techniques with others. The Residents decided they would like to start an art class; therefore, the resources were bought and a date scheduled.

Roma showed her work to encourage others to have a go, and although reluctant at first, they used pre-printed pencil drawings to concentrate on their technique.

Residents have loved the sessions and Roma continues to encourage others to have a go at the new activity, she has inspired others to just… go for it!

Pauline Gardiner, Care Home Manager, commented, “Everyone loves the feeling of community, laughter and conversation. All the Residents said they enjoyed being together to learn from Roma. All are proud of their paintings.”
