Residents at
Sheraton Court, residential and residential dementia care home in Hartlepool, have had a month of celebrating many different events which included the Coronation of King Charles III and International Nurses Day.
Resident and Colleagues celebrated the Kings Coronation over 3 days incorporating VE Day.
Saturday consisted of watching the parades, celebrations, and the official crowning of our Majesties. It was a great atmosphere as fellow Residents, friends and family enjoyed strawberries and cream, fruit scones with clotted cream or chocolate biscuits. Some even enjoyed a little glass of something sparkling and plenty of cups of tea.
Making sure not to miss a minute of the celebrations everyone had lunch on their laps with their eyes glued to the TV.
Millie, one of the Resident, said, “Brilliant, I feel very proud to be British. It was utterly marvellous, King Charles looked very focused.”
Everyone received a commemorative chocolate treat which went down very well. On Sunday, the tables were joined together to make a large eating area and family and friends were invited to join us for the ‘big lunch’. Everywhere was decorated with a real British theme and there was the ‘Official Coronation Celebration Playlist’ playing in the background all day, making it a lovely lunchtime.
Later in the week, Sheraton Court celebrated International Nurses Day.
There were gift baskets given to the visiting nursing staff with funny hearts made by the Residents. Visiting staff were very happy to have a little something just for them and were genuinely surprised to receive anything.
There were some lovely conversations with Residents that chose nursing as a career, two such Residents were nurses their whole lives.
Maureen Edwards trained in Ireland with many others staying in dormitories, making friends for life, while Jane Wells chose to leave the profession after several years after getting fed up with the job but always regretted doing so! It was great for the Residents to share their stories!
